"Stranger Than Fiction" - RipIt4Me Doesn't Work

I'm trying to back up "Stranger Than Fiction" (not BluRay/HD-DVD). I've read several posts here and on other sites that discuss problems in backing up that were successfully overcome by using RipIt4Me. After DVDShrink and then DVDDecrypter failed for me, I tried using RipIt4Me (my usual order of doing things). First I used version 1.460, because I frequently had problems with 1.57 (the version that 1.46 updated to.) Well, 1.46 just crashed altogether. So I tried 1.57-- again, crashed. I decided to check for updates (neither of the other versions could find any via the usual method) and located 1.71. So I downloaded that one. Well, it didn't crash, but it doesn't work, either-- it just hangs on the first step-- it keeps saying under "DVD Info": "No DVD, No DVD, No DVD". And Next to the DVD Drive letter indicator, it just says "Updating info ..."

What's happening here, and is there anything I can to do get around it? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Before you open RipIt4Me, eject the disk, launch RipIt4Me, then close the DVD tray.

To be a bit more specific:

I'd suggest you try the following procedure (It was successful for me for my R1 DVD) using RipIt4me in the specific sequence listed:

FIRST open RipIt4Me - and select "Wizard" mode or "One click" mode

THEN load the DVD

Thanks to both of you for your help, but that didn't work either. First I get the error message indicating that the program can't create the temporary directory for the original IFOs. I tried anyway, but it wouldn't work (same problem as before.) I also tried creating the temporary directory manually, but it still wouldn't work. Here's the on screen log:

Any other suggestions? (The "canceled" was initiated by me when the program just froze up like it did before.)

I've just ripped that disc using DVDshrink 3.20 and nothing else. Does'nt seem to have any extra protection. :)
