Conatant Qulity?

I use 0.11bits per pixel in 2-pass mode. If someone could tell me which number to enter in constant quality mode? I don't care about target file size.

P.S. I rip DVD videos without resize at 0.11bits per pixel, so bitrate depend on resolution and framerate. eg. 720*576*25*0.11=1140480bps=1141Kbps

I would say Q 22. Varies with the quality of the DVD.

Actually you do care about target file size, and you're looking to achieve it in one pass, instead of two, otherwise you wouldn't be asking. Achieving a certain BPP is related to achieving a certain bitrate and hence target file size.

There is no one answer to your question. You will get many different opinions.

If you want my answer from experience I'd say more like 24 would be closer to a bitrate of 1150 kbps, which fits about 7+ hours on a DvD-R, when I'm looking for VCD type of sizes.

But I'm probably encoding from a very different source than you or Henrix. It doesn't make me, or Henrix, right or wrong. And even so, 24 sometimes gives me higher than 1500 kbps and sometimes lower than 900 kbps.

As well, you can get 1141kbps from 21 and even 26 depending on your source. So there is NO clear answer. They will all vary like this or more.

Constant quality 1 pass is a mindset, not a bitrate/BPP. Look at it differently. Change your philosophy and you'll be happier.

Don't think like this:
"What will get me close to this bitrate, and this size, with only one pass?"

Instead think like this:
"How much quality do I want and what is the minimum quality level I will accept if I want smaller file sizes?"

Otherwise if a more accurate file size is important to you, you have to go 2-pass.
