View Full Version : Muxing WMA with AVI video...

I typically convert HD-DVD to WMV files by using WME for encoding video and Eac3to for multi-channel AC3 for the audio. I would use Stream Edit to mux them together.
I was experimenting with DivX to see if the encoder performance would be fast on conversion and it seemed the times were much faster converting to AVI. The question I have is now that I have the AVI video, what should I used to mux the WMA file with the Video?
I don't see an option in VirtualDub...I have converted the WMA to AVI but still having problems muxing them. I tried using graphedit and AVI mux to dump...but that crashed.
Any suggestions? Clearly I won't go down this path again but don't want to waste 10 hours of encoding.

Hi!Please explain ("WMA" is an audiostream)?
yeah...I have WMA audio file (windows media audio) that I would like to mux with an AVI video file.
I do have the uncompressed AVI 6 channel AVI audio file that I created the WMA from. The Video is 10GB and wma is 600MB and the audio AVI is 6GB.

I do have the uncompressed AVI 6 channel AVI audio file that I created the WMA from.Your terminology is confusing. Do you mean that you have a 5.1 .AC3 audiostream?
If so, you can either use VirtualDubMOD directly to load both the video and .AC3 audio - or the standard VirtualDub plus the .AC3 ACM Codec for Windows by "fccHandler" - and either retain the .AC3 audio or convert it to .MP3 or other...

I have an mpa (.ec3) file that was created from a demux of an HD-DVD EVO file. That was a DD 5.1 audio track. I used eac3to (ec3 to wav) and tranzcode (wav to 6 mono channels) and then I used Sony Vegas 7.0 to create the wma file. I also used WAVAVIMUX to combine the 6 mono into an AVI file. That avi audio file is huge so I don't want to use that to create the final muxed file.
So I have VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod both on my machine, but don't know how to add the audio in either app. I can load video sure enough...I don't know how to add the audio....I don't see it in the menus! I do see adding a wav audio in Virtual Dub, but the wav file I have doesn't load in VirtualDub.

Not sure the best way so I decided to proceed with a dump in GraphEdit...That didn't work... So how do I add audio in VDub?

I'm sorry, I'm not personally familiar with the file formats you're talking about.
Hopefully, another poster will provide you with additional information...

You talked about adding an audio stream to a video stream in VirtualDub...can you tell me how to do that?

More specifically, in VirtualDubMOD - Click on the "Streams" dropdown menu, then click on "Stream List", then click on "Add" and select the audio file you wish to add...

WMA v2 (aka divx audio) could be used in AVI. I don't think the newer versions can (I've never tried though).
WMA can be muxed with almost any video (even from AVI) in ASF
