View Full Version : Procoder2 users: what are your preferred EclPro.ini settings?

I've been using Procoder2 with increasing frequency, but I have a few doubts as to the optimal compatibility and quality settings for EclPro. There's plenty of information on the Alwaysframe and Quality parameters here on Doom9, but not so much on these other three variables:

AutoParameters AlwaysGOP15 StrictGOPBrateControl

What I'm looking for some anecdotal (or theoretical...) info on these parameters from users who regularly encode with Procoder2 and EclPro:

1/ Have you ever personally experienced problems on standalone players with certain settings of the above-mentioned parameters?

2/ Or, on the other hand, have you had nothing but successful standalone playback with certain settings? ;)

3/ Have you ever noticed a visual qualitative difference with certain settings of the above-mentioned parameters?

Any info you can provide would be helpful. Thanks :)

Can you see a difference?

# AlwaysGOP15

My Sony and my older Pioneer player has a problem with it sometimes, and it is not full mpeg2 dvd NTSC compliance after pulldown.

I can tell you all day I have a problem with some Procoder settings (via EclPro), but does it have any effect with your player or can you see a difference in the picture quality?

I see... so if I wanted play it safe and have EclPro dynamically adjust DC Prec but not GOP length, would AlwaysGOP15=0 override AutoParameters=1 and avoid the excessive GOP length problem?

Edit: I checked a few of my re-encodes with Bitrate Viewer, and none of them seem to have GOPs above 12 (I had used AlwaysGOP15=0 and AutoParameters=1). Then again, I don't know how to check whether they have pulldown or not.

Pulldown is done during the rebuilt stage with DVD-RB.
GOP's of 15 are fine at 23.976 fps... but for DVD's, it needs to be at 29.97 so DVD-RB does it's pulldown during the rebuilt stage and now the GOP's are no longer mpeg2 dvd NTSC compliance.

That is why (I'm pretty sure) that hank315 changed HC Encoder's Auto GOP from a max of 15 (when using pulldown) to 12.

I have always GOP15=1 and autoparams=on but I am in PAL-land and so have not experienced any problems.

Thanks guys. I think I'll stick to AutoGOP15=0, Autoparameters=1 then, since I'm in NTSC land. :)

I have mine set Autoparameters=0 by default. According to the readme, encoding parameters (DCPrec and gop length) are set according to ECL.
