I am new to all this first of all. But from what i have read, this is the best one as i just got 1 last week. I havent had any problems at all with it. NOTE: some of the retail boxes did NOT come with the software even though it says on the box its included. Just call or e mail Pioneer with mod, date. ser.# and they will send out.
Prices range from $378.00 US to about $650.00 and change. Go to pricegrabber.com and you get a very good comparison. I like you were a little hesitant, but after reading Many posts could not find anything really bad about the Pioneer. My first Pioneer product was a CD player i bought YEARS ago when they first came out. My daughter still uses it today with no probs. Sorry for the Long reply. Happy Burning. :D

I would have to agree, the A03 is a good deal right now. I have one and it works great. It's the never ending question with computer hardware, when to buy?. There is always something faster and cheaper on the way, but if you keep waiting, you will never own one.

I also have the Pioneer A03 and I agree, get one now. This is how you justify buying i:
50 new DVDs $1000
70 copied DVDs + A03 (if you pay $650) $1000
200 additional copied DVDs $1000
This is all assuming that you pay $5 a blank.

After months of waiting and studying the "-" and "+" format debates, I finally ordered a Pioneer A03 yesterday. My primary reason for going this route is the cost of the media. I bought some of the $2.95 blanks from the website posted in another thread. Hell, I remember paying almost $20/each for VHS blanks in the early 1980s. $3 each for DVD is amazing!! And it will only get cheaper.
I bought my retail A03 from newegg.com for $435 delivered. A couple of places had it cheaper, but newegg is the BEST online vendor I've ever dealt with. (Check resellerratings.com and you'll see). $30 extra bucks is worth the peace of mind in knowing I'll have service should there be problems.

How about DVD+RW like the HP DVD 100i? Is this a good buy? I found the media to be expensive and rare right now. But looking at the number of drive manufacturers (or rebranders) I would think that the price would get lower.
Have a look at www.dvdplusrw.org

Hi,
I bought my Ricoh DVD+RW burner 2 weeks ago and made with the great help of this forum 6 copies of DVDīs, which are running very well.
The Ricoh burns a complete disc (4,3 GB) in about 25 minutes and the price for discs got down here in Munich from 20 Euro to 15 Euro (in 2 weeks).
So I think this will be going on...think about what was the price of the first CD-Rīs and what it is now...

Well, this seem to indicate that DVD+RW is the best choice for quality. But for media price DVD-R is still untouchable.
Any good internet sites wher DVD+RW can be bought for cheap? I have been looking around and the cheapest I could find was at www.futureshop.ca. HP DVD+RW fo around 14 $US (19.99 $Canadian)
Anything better out there?
