i encoded a dvd to xvid avi using megui with mpeg cqm and qpel, the avi file plays fine, but when i mux ac3 and mp3 audio streams in it using avimuxgui or vdubmod, the resulting avi is corrupted, i use vista home premium, ffdshow xvid decoder, no errors on pc or discs or hdd, pls can some1 help?

Better mux to the MKV container.
Download mkvtoolnix and use mkvmerge to mux.
PS: Haali Matroska Splitter or equivalent is needed to play mkv files.

Make sure you can play AC3 files as well.

but i wanted to play it on my divx ultra 5140...

When I saw that qpel thingy, I thought, it couldn't be that he needs standalone compatibility, but then if you say you have the 5140, it's another story.

Well, it's been a long time I ever muxed AC3 w/ AVI, so I forgot how to do it correctly, but here what my google search has given:
In VDM, change both Preload and Interleave to:
160ms if it is a 384kbps AC3
128ms if it is a 448kbps AC3
Put the MP3 track as second (here you don't have to change the preload and interleave values, keep the default values).
