View Full Version : How on Earth can I do this, and ideally simply?

I have spent MONTHS trying to track down or invent a highly generalized procedure to mix in an additional soundtrack to a standard commercial DVD *WHILE* retaining the menus and subtitles and extras as automatically as possible.

MPUCoder had me believing for weeks and weeks that his MuxMan Professional muxer could do this. I told him straight out what I wanted to do and he said he could do it.

He just now admitted it can't!!! After taking my fee, of course.

Now, I well know that if you spend a great deal of expert, highly individualized personal time, you can probably re-invent a menu and subtitle system to FORCE-install into your modified main title. I don't WANT that. I want to be able to demux just the main audio soundtrack, mix in some additional audio, and put it all back together again simply and as generally and as automatically as possible - WITH all the menus and subtitles and extras.

Why is this so incredibly difficult? Tell me, please!

Is there any company or any individual programmer who is up to this seemingly straightforward task?

Is there any hope at all?

I once did something like this, I used PGCDemux to demux vidoe, audio and subtitle stream, Muxman (free version) to mux back together with new audio and then Vobblanker to rpleace the title on the DVD with the newly muxed one.

Only problem was that the audio selection menu was wrong, but you can still use the audio button on your dvd player remote control.

How on Earth can I do this, and ideally simply? Please read and follow the forum rules, specifically, rule 9: use a proper thread title. Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. Can you point me to an as easy as possible a description of using Vobblanker to do what you suggest?

Thanks again!

Dear setarip_old, my mentoring friend -- you've helped me before!

I'm trying that procedure now. Thanks so much for fiinding it for me.

It looks awfully complicated, though. I'll report back when I've finished.

I'm still goinig through Dave82's procedure, but let me raise two points now:

(1) If I demux and then try to remux the subtitles, which I definitely want, I get underrun/underflow errors.

(2) At one point in Dav82's procedure, it states:

6. Open these new VOBs with Menu Edit and using "Change ID" reproduce the original VOB/cell ID sequence (you find it in the VTS overview of your original VTS_??_0.IFO). Pay attention: the sequence must continue through the VOBs!

What on Earth does the bolded, italicized sentence mean? Is there a sub-procedure for that? I'm completely stumped and can't continue. Please advise.

I don't understand what Dave82's Step 7 means, either. It reads:

"7. Open the first VOB with VOBEdit and click on Edit ---> Join CellVobs files. Rename your new files according to your titleset number."

I don't get it at all! They're all title set 1 in my case. What they holy heck is he TALKING about??

In the mean time, does anyone have any recommendations for source material to read at a programming level such that I could write a program to do what I want from scratch? Although I've never really worked in this field (I've done a bit of testing work for the MPEG-2 standard), I just KNOW there's got to be a way.

Does anyone know of any straightforward books or web sites that can take me through the fine structure of a DVD?

you find it in the VTS overview of your original VTS_??_0.IFOIf, for example, you "Open" VTS_01_0.IFO, the first line in the bottom window of IFOEdit will be "VTS Overview"...

Yes, I see that. What I don't know is what specific information Dave82 is referring to and how to identify it and deal with it. There's a huge amount of information in the VTS Overview and no indication from Dave on what specific information I need and exactly where I should find it and how to enter it.
