In dgindex I can specify a cropping boundary.
Does dgdecode deblock the stuff 'outside the box'?
(ie letterbox and pillar bars, other junk)

If you set cropping in DGIndex, then DGDecode will invoke the Avisynth Crop() filter to implement that before any other processing. Cropped areas disappear so it's not possible to deblock them.
This does raise one interesting caveat though. If you intend to use deblocking, then you must crop only in macroblock size multiples in DGIndex. Thus, it's safer to not crop in DGIndex but rather in your Avisynth script. In that case your letterbox areas, etc., will indeed be deblocked.

Ah, ok. I knew it invoked crop filter, but thought it was at the end. ie thought the deblocking was before the crop, as part of the decode. Hence my question if the 'box limits' were communicated in so it could avoid needless processing.
Interesting you should mention about the crop/deblock combo - ran into that just the other day. Was doing a test clip, cropped 24 off top and bottom, and it was sooo sllooowwww!!! Aborted, scratched my head, changed crop to 16 top 32 bottom, voila - back to 'normal' speed.
Thanks for the quick reply...
