Hi all,
is there any way I can join mpeg4 files without re-encoding?
Both files have been encoded with the same bitrate.
Many thanks

Having the same bitrate isn't a limitation : you need to have the most similar options possible between all parts you want to join.
Otherwise, Avidemux has an append function (File > Append ... instead of File > Open ...). This might work for you. Set audio=copy, video=copy, format=mp4 and "File > Save as ...".
Get the latest svn versions from 2.4 branch here : http://www.razorbyte.com.au/avidemux/

Thanks guys!
mp4box seems to be the right choice for what I need to do. yamb 2.0 is a nice gui but I need it to be command line - realised that after posting the thread.
Unfortunately the mp4box documentation is not very helpful so if you have anything in mind (alternative docs, manual for command line) please let me know.
many thanks.

Yamb can show command-lines, although it's more difficult than it used to be. But the general format is just:
mp4box -add file1.mp4 -cat file2.mp4 -new output.mp4
