Forgive the newb question, but I'm looking into finding some way to compress my old home movies, but still retain the ability to edit the videos (cut out frames, add titles and transitions, etc). I've encoded a few using megui with great results, but I wasn't sure if I'd still be able to edit the encoded videos using an application like Adobe Premier? Do I need to reencode back to DV avi? Hopefully there's an easier way

Adobe Premier 2.0 can open and edit any mp4 but you need avs plugins for this. The latest Adobe premier CS2 can open and edit any mp4 without problems

And if you want h264 editing in Sony Vegas 7, stick with h264 main profile and MP4 has to be ISMA complaint.

You might find directly editing AVC video to be a tremendous pain anyway, just because it's soooooo slooooow with long gops. DV, MJPEG, Huffyuv, or even crazy hi-q xvid make much better codecs for editing.

I think update for High Profile Mainconcept Decoder in Vegas came out allready so shouldn't be a problem if not you can update on your own by replacing the old Mainconcept Decoder with the newer one, this works well and then High Profile is supported ;) but better is to use CoreAVC as Decoder with Vegas, much faster Rendering speed (on the Decoding side) ;D

Thanx for the tips about replacing Mainconcept Decoder, cause I could only work with main profile (but it's very important that MP4 is ISMA complaint, otherwise no profile can help load video ;) ).
Where do I have to replace Mainconcept Decoder?
And How can I force Vegas to use CoreAVC?

...from my MainConcept H264 Encoder v2.1.0 to "...Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\File Formats\MCMP4" (and also to "Sony\Sound Forge 9.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\mcmp4plug" just in case ;)) and now I can load high profile. CruNcher, thanx again.
