Whats the best (easiest) product to use to convert a DVD into an AVI file?
I want to burn some of my DVDs onto one DVD to use on my standalone DVD Divx player.

Hi!
Two things you've done that you're not supposed to at these forums:
1) You've asked what's "BEST"
2) You posted the same question twice - See your other thread at:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=126024
You might want to use the RipIt4Me "package" to first decrypt your DVD and copy it to your hard drive.
You may then want to use MPEG Mediator (My personal favorite) or AutoGK (The favorite of many at this forum) to compress and convert to .AVI...

Oops. Sorry....
Yeh. no problem ripping to hard drive - use ripit3me or dvdshrink.
I've just downloaed AutoGK and I'll give MPEG mediator a try too.
Been using DVDx so far ....

MPEG mediator seems very good....
Only trouble is deciding what codec to use.
And then having trouble getting file down to a decent size???

AGK seems awesome...I'm actually outputting 5.1!...
The output options are AVI and DIVX but it's disabled from selection with AVI as default. Is there a reason why DivX isn't an option any longer?

Hi,
Yes, Divx is not installed (Xvid is) so not available; see FAQ n° 4.3
If you want to install Divx see also MoreFAQ n° 4.3.1

Divx 6.5 (Pro) is reported to be the latest working rev. If you have the 6.6 and divx output is greyed out in AGK then it is not supported ATM (Don't ask me more, I don't use Divx).
Up to you yo downgrade to 6.5 or try Xvid ;)

I've used AutoGK 2.40 with DivX Pro 6.6.1. Have only used it once so far, but I had no problems.

I'm not having issues so far...the selection of codec allows both DivX and Xvid. The output format is disabled with Avi selected and doesn't allow the option of selecting .divx.
I was asking if there was some compatibility since I was trying to output to .Divx format.
Also, I was trying to research if .Divx actually allows more than 2 channel audio. Seems all these converters downsample 5.1 to stereo. Nothing on the DivX site.

afaik, you can use ac3 (6ch) audio in avi container. no point in
making .divx files imho.

@NHRaider,
Sorry, I misunderstood you. AutoGK has never saved to the Ultradivx DMF (DivX Media Format). It's AVI only. If you want .divx files with chapters, menus, etc., there are other programs available that will do that for you. I've never used them so I don't know about their audio options.
Good luck.

Yeah...I was trying to figure the standard to migrate my DVDs to...I thought DivX was a good choice, but now I think I'll stick with Avi since I can encode the audio in multi-channel now with AUTOGK....just have some synching problems with a few of the older DVDs

I would recommend trying StaxRip, look in the MPEG4 GUI's part of this forum. It is relatively simple and easy to use in my opinion - you also have the option of using other container formats such as Matroska and mp4, and other audio formats such as AAC.
Worth a look.
