I've got a couple of large MKV videos that I need to split to fit on DVD5's, but I'm unsure how to go about doing it. In the past I've used VirtualDub's Direct Stream Copy for AVI files, and that's worked fine (except with VBR audio), but I've never had to edit a file with multichannel audio. Should I rip and split the audio separately and then remux? And if so, what application is recommended?

In MKVmerge GUI http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/

Drag in your original file.

Then go to the third tab labeled "Global", you will then see the splitting options. Click enable splitting, set your size to what you want and then click "Start Muxing". It will then create a split up version of the original with the number appended to the filename.
