hello everybody
I'am using ProjectX to demux TS streams captured with my terratec Cinergy T2 device. Projectx saves the subtitles in a sup file. I find the quality rather poor: indeed an OCR can't read them (I've tried subrip), due i think a lack of space between letters and a human being can even have some difficulties sometimes.
When seeing the DVB programs live, the subtibles are pretty good, so I suspect bad parameters when using Projectx..
Does anybody have a suggestion to that problem ?
thanks for any ideas

I have experienced this myself but I assumed it was due to my poor reception, I am in the process of installing a new TV Aerial so time will tell.

It might be that some of the subtitles are corrupt data due to reception problems. It only happens with some of them with me, even with my very poor Aerial (which is in my loft [between rooftiles and my upperstairs internal ceiling]. Which is why I assumed it was due to poor reception. It gets worse with poor signal strength as well.

There are some strange options in ProjectX relating to subtitles, draw outline etc. Maybe they are causing problems. I do not know what they do.

After recording from a European DVB-T stream, output is .ts.

That is put into ProjectX, and the outputted file is a .sup file.

Using the 'sup2vobsub' command line program available on this forum, I convert the .sup file to .sub, and then use an OCR program (for me this will be SubRip) to turn it into a .srt text file.

I use ProjectX to demux Australian DTV and set it to provide srt subs. You can select the type of subs format from Presettings menu.

The more you use Subrip(using the same .sum file and saving afterwards), the better it gets at recognising these poor subtitles, just don't use the same .sum for DVDs. I live in the Uk and after some tedious OCRing, Subrip recognises most(well BBC2& CH4 at least) captured subtitles. If you do a spell check in Word after you save your text file you'll identify errors, and can correct them.

hello redDwarf1
I don't think that I have a problem of reception, because when watching the program live with HomeCinema (the soft given by Terratec), the subtitles are very nice. when I watch the TS file with HomeCinema, it's the same.
So i'd rather suspect a misuse of projectx

Use the projectx version from here:

http://www.oozoon.de/main_en.html

Thats the ProjectX 0.90.04.00.b15 from 25.03.2007 file.

You can rename the jar file to projectx.jar and copy over any current copy you have on the computer thats used for Staxrip, Megui etc (without renaming the file it won't replace the current copy). This version works much better, I haven't had any problems with the output unlike the normal version. This one also works perfectly for DVD's as well, so if you have a corrupted DVD it can keep the sound and video in sync etc.

There are two ways of using projectx, as a command line interface as used by Staxrip/Megui etc or as a GUI. Its all contained within the projectx.jar file.

Load it, and then click on the presettings menu option then presettings. Under this you shouldn't need to change any settings other than the subtitle tab. Under subtitle you can select the default export format, and the available options are:
Sup, Son, Srt, Sc, Sub, Stl, Ssa, or text (not in order!). That is the only option you should change, although you can also select 'additional export as vobsub(idx+sub).

Not these settings only apply by using the gui interface from what I understand, you have to use a cli option and add it to the ripper programme if you want to do it that way.

Also remember to run the normal processes after this, such as DGindex etc if thats what normally occurs. If you load the .m2v file directly it won't sync.

Thanks for pointing that out burfadel, that has helped as I was getting array errors with the official version that was getting very problematic.
Here is one of the subtitles that is not coming out right. It has happened on a number of occasions. Sometimes the text looks like it is not well formed, with uneven edges to the characters. The picture is not like that, it looks very corrupted. I do not know whether this is due to DVDSupDecode or whether it is due to the subtitles themselves being corrupt.
