Divx with ABR Mp3 Audio

Dear forum,

Is that possible to use ABR mp3 ?
If yes what tools should I use to do that ?

Nandub ? only have VBR option, no ABR :(

hey there,

just a clarification on that point. an ABR mp3 IS just another type of VBR mp3 and nandub can join the avi and the mp3 perfectly.

Should be ok there using mp3, vbr-mp3 or abr-mp3.
ALL mp3 which NanDub, A.K.A the greatest friend to mankind, accepts no problem. Quick note, I think if you are gonna use ABR, you might as well use VBR. I feel only use ABR if you are having problems with VBR.

Personally I have to disagree with this. It's well know throughout the LAME world that using ABR with LAME 3.9x provides a better quality MP3 than VBR. Logically this shouldn't happen but the LAME dev group chose to tune the ABR code before VBR so were stuck with that at the moment. In saying that, there is a push to start tuning the VBR code over at r3mix and I believe Dibrom might look into it as well after he's moved. Just my 2 cents:D

Now there is something I never read about. I must check out ABR now that you have me thinking about it. I was thinking logically, but this is interesting. Is this a very well known fact? I think in just my experience with lame, vbr worked best for me. Thanks for the insight. ;)

Matter, what I have been reading over at hydrogen is that VBR is perfectly tuned with the --alt-preset standard setting and it is the ABR presets that still need some work. least that is what Dibrom said.

Interesting. That's the first I've heard him mention anything like that. Do you have the link?

abr better than vbr = apple better than orange (more or less)

abr isn't better than vbr.

vbr could offer you the best quality and the best filesize. And with alt-presets (standard xtreme) it offers the best quality and if the encoder could a good filisize.

The problem is that the vbr offers you the best quality with high bitrates >160(for example), and the best ears on the net and the people who tuned lame said that if you use low vbr modes it could introduce artifacts and they recomend the use of abr for bitrates lower than the bitrates you could obtain with high vbr presets, standard, xtreme, r3mix.

Hence:

abr is better than vbr for low bitrates < (vbr tuned presets)

for really high quality and filesize use vbr.

Nor xtreme nor insane are abr :eek: . Where have you read this????

Well, xtreme is a very, very tuned VBR mode.

and insane is 320 CBR, is some brute force aproximation that use maximum bitrate in all cases to be sure to not make a mistake.

There isn't a really difference between xtreme an insane unless you go with music with exploits the flawness of the mp3 model.

My apologies. I have no idea where I came up with this at. I've always been a hydrogen member but I also read over at r3mix. The problem is that 2 forums sometimes give conflicting informatiom.

What I should really have said previously is that --alt-preset 140 would give a very nice ABR file and at this bitrate would provide a much better MP3 than using VBR:)

Perhaps I'm still hungover from New Years. Thx!
