What resolution is your monitor at?

And what are you viewing with?

the resolution is 1152x864 and I am viewing it with a SOYO 19'' widescreen LCD monitor

you HAVE TO setup your computer to match your displays NATIVE resolution.
(I guess it is a screen with 1440 x 900 pixels resolution)

this not only gives you an unstretched image, but also gives you a pixel-crisp detailed image quality!

Right click desktop, choose properties, hit the settings tab. Make sure you have chosen the right monitor if you have more than one, then drag the resolution slider to the right.

does your DVD player software know your screen is wide? it should as it has access to screen dimensions, but computers can be pretty dumb.

there's a few places it can go wrong though. the DVD itself might be flagged incorrectly (4:3 content flagged as 16:9 would show like this). most likely it's just a small setting buried in the DVD software's setup pages somewhere. look in there for "aspect ratio" settings. it might be a simple matter of "stretch to full screen" or something similar being enabled.

Riva TNT? Good luck finding drivers for those, but you're going to have to. Whatever drivers you have currently don't support widescreen resolutions, and until you install newer ones it won't work.

(However, you can use MPC's "fit to screen" mode to re-correct, although it'll look blurry since the pixels don't line up how the software expects. In fact, until you get the drivers fixed, everything will be very blurry.)

you can use powerstrip to add custom resolutions to windows.

then everything will be fine.

or use the 'driver'-CD that came with the monitor.

it also will add an additional entry in windows in order to support the native rrresolution of the screen.

I had thought powerstrip was killed off a year or so ago. Good software :)

I had thought powerstrip was killed off a year or so ago. And the Riva TNT is pre millenium hardware so a dead tool is just the right thing for a GFX card that won't die :) My memory is rather fuzzy but isn't that chipset a decade old?

so powerstrip should solve the problem, ok try it and get back to you all

I believe it is, I was looking into it for my old AMD K6 back in the day

you might have to play with it for an hour or so before you get it just right, good luck
