View Full Version : Using DL media for regular data backup?

Hi everyone.

It was thanks to this forum i learned how to deal with DL burning - what media to use, what programs to use and which ones to avoid. For my backups i always use Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x. No exceptions. As for software, I use RipIt4Me along with ImgBurn (i canīt stop stressing how much i find these programs to be so good and stable; although i would like to learn how to use them in a few more advanced ways - all i do, all the time, is rip the Video_TS folder to HD with RipIt4Me+Decrypter and then burn with ImgBurn... i don't quite understand the differences between the several Modes - build, write, ISO, etc. and when or not to use this or that Output setting, etc... I know which ones to use for what i do, but i get the feeling these programs can accomplish much more than what i use them for...). But i'm wandering away from my question (sorry).

The point is here in Portugal Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x DVD's go in and out of stock all the time, sometimes i cant get them for 2 or 3 weeks. At a major store someone told me they hadn't gotten an answer to their last 2 orders for those discs... I get the sense it can become increasingly harder to find them.

Last time i was shopping i picked up two of those discs, but they are 8x certified, instead of 2.4x. When trying to do normal DVD backups, i couldn't burn those discs, but i think they are still useable. Since i can't use these discs for DVD backups, i thought i'd use them for normal data backup. What software should i use to burn these DL discs with regular data? Is it ok to use Nero? Must i worry about the layer break? Or can i just use ImgBurn to burn normal folders onto these discs?

Thanks for your help, and sorry for the slightly chaotic post.
