how's it goin? i haven't been to the forum in awhile and this is probably a redundant question but i can't seem to find it in the search.
i recently updated from nero 6 to 7 and all seems to be well except one thing.
the used read buffer during the burning stages while using the burning rom part of the software.
when i used nero 6 my entire used read buffer filled up and it burnt fine. now when using nero 7 my used read buffer fills to about 40% then stays there and the process takes up to like 15 minutes [ vs. like 8 mins in the past @ 8x]
the dma is set on all drives [hd's and optical drives]
i 'm running 2g's of ram
i have a pent 4 3ghz processor
and the aspi layer is up to date [4.71]
i uninstalled the software and went back to nero 6 and it worked fine like it used to. i then reinstalled nero 7 and now back to slo burning and half filled used read buffers.
any suggestions or miracle fixes? i appreciate all whom read this post and try to help. thanx!

Go to nero.com and download their clean tool, defrag your computer, reinstall nero 7 and turn off your anti virus when burning, your buffer should be full in the 95 to 98% range after that.At least that is what works for me.Hope it helps.

About the only things I see that I do differently is that I cache smaller than 64k and I don't add the 1 extension,I have the sony burner on my old computer and the buffer would always start bouncing after you update to newest version,so if you defrag and clean, then reinstall, run simulatation without burning untill the buffer stays full, then burn at the lowest speed(4x or 6 if it's your lowest option), I was burning 4.5 gigs in 14 minutes on my P3 at 4x(perfect burns untill the buffer bounces, lol).

First of all ASPI is an old interface. Windows XP etc use SPTI, and thats what newer programmes use (including Nero).
First of all shut off the nero 7 indexing crap. Type in services.msc and select disabled under 'nmindexingservice'. Also stop the service whilst you're there. Its still in the memory so end the nmindexingstr (or close to that) under the task manager or restart. This has no real use and is just part of their bloatware, not to mention it uses a large amount of memory and runs when nero 7 isn't even open. Also when under the services.msc turn of the normal indexing (disabled and then click stop) if you don't run the search function every 20 minutes, because it only makes searches slightly faster and it slows down the computer.
Under options (file menu) what is the directory you selected for the cache (under the cache tab)? From what I've seen it uses the short file name (8.1) such that 'c:\Documents and Settings\(etc)' is listed as 'c:\Docume~1\(etc)'. In many cases and as suggested by tweak references, and set by most tweak and even other programmes, is the disabling of the creation of these folder names as they are no longer needed - by any respectful programme...?! This is because when a file or folder is created it has to create the name of it twice! slowing the system down...
Basically try a different cache folder, just make sure the drive is fragmented. Disk-at-once creates the image on the computer first then burns it, whereas file-at-once goes progressively.
Disabling the antivirus at any time is generally a bad idea, and if you're online or using an always on connection (Lan, wi-fi, ADSL etc) disabling it is also taking a big risk! The antivirus shouldn't affect the burn at all, especially with the configuration you have. Actually even with a 1.8Ghz p4 with 512mb of ram having the antivirus enabled shouldn't make the difference between it taking 8 and 8.5 minutes! let alone 8 and 15.
Under the ultrabuffer tab, is it set to automatic or manual? With 2gb of ram the buffer should be 80mb which would be greyed in the box.
Hopefully this will help you a bit, and even if it doesn't the tip about both the indexing services is a must, because they're both next to useless, take up a lot of ram, slows down the computer and um.... useless? lol

Hi!
(Not that using an ASPI layer would cause any problems anyway, but) Regarding your first "First of all" - re-read the log carefully:NT-SPTI used...

Is that a BRAND NEW or used R/W disc you used?
You might want to see if you obtain different results by using a +R or -R disc instead...
