Hello,

I have a Motorola PVR HDTV receiver and I stream content through the firewire port onto my hard drive.
Now I have this one saved stream on the receiver, and I can't figure out what is wrong. Here is a screenshot of what happens:

I have captured it several times now, and it always happens, but not always in the same position but more or less through the complete show.

Does anyone know what this is? Can someone tell me, if I can fix this or if this is a lost cause?
When I watch it, it looks fine. I tried 2 different computer with different cables and I used CapDVHS.

Thanks
Bucky

I get them occasionally. Usually they're from the broadcast itself. I know somebody in my area and we both cap sports games. He caps OTA while I cap from cable. We both get these errors and glitches.

I think you may have different glitches, because in 90% of all cases I can get a good stream after capturing it several times.
I strongly believe it is something else, but I don't even know where to start troubleshooting. Rebooting the computer, rebooting the cable box...

Sometimes the whole capture shows those artefacts, sometimes it is only in the beginning, sometimes it starts late through the end.
I have seen the occasional couple of frames and I can live with that, but these are unwatchable :-(

I could suggest making sure your computer is not being used at the time, slight cpu or disk interruption could lose bytes.
Also try file->wizard in vlc, transcode to file, no recompression, for source choose capture device, dshow://DCT or osmething...
You can also file, open capture device, refresh list, choose firewire device, hit ok, now there is realtime video and audio (don't need to choose audio device, and don't hit configure).
