Black and White to Color Effect/Transition?

Does anyone know how to do the color change effect in the Live Free or Die Hard trailer?

It looks like a simple fade from desaturated video to coloured video - though the desaturated video may have been constructed using just one channel (R, G, or B) of the colour video.

the way i do it using adobe premiere pro is to place a copy of the video in track 2 above the original video, then add a monochrome effect to the video on track 1 and then ramp the opacity of the video in track 2 from zero (start point) to 100% (end point), this way you get the colour of the video in track 2 coming in slowly (or quickly depending on the length of the video u r using..
