View Full Version : Video Playback Issues on XP SP2

I've got Windows XP SP2 installed. I also have numerous video playback software including powerdvd, windvd player, winamp and other dvix/xvid programs. I have most codecs available but for some reason recently, the only video content I can playback and see any video is flash. I tried removing and re-installing codecs but nothing seems to work. I am reluctant to wipe my machine, as I am 100% positive there is a less drastic solution. I've checked the obvious. I can't get avi/divx/xvid or even mpg to playback. I get audio only. The directx drivers seem to be fine and test correctly. Any suggestions?

Yeah, his system is drowned, especially when I see both PowerDVD and WinDVD installed :eek:

ONE DVD player is fully sufficient my friend!

Any other favorite codec-checkers? I also have DirectShow Filter Manager and Filmerit but I think Insurgent is at the top of my list now?

Those are the only two I've seen any use for
and the DSFM only because sometimes the filters' order get messed up. Insurgent is a good tool but in theory should never need to be used if you don't mess your system up with to many players and codecs

Greetings. Same thing happened to me. After spending a great deal of time getting nowhere, I checked my Bios settings. Everything looked O.K. but, just to be sure, I reset to the "must work" default settings. Lo and Behold, my video playback was able to work. I, stupidly, did not note the settings previously, so I don't know which one may have been the culprit. I suggest you do likewise, but note all current settings in case you need to reset them back again. Lote of luck.
