hello

i use cyberlink's audio decoder to decode and play ac3 files
no w i want to use the same decoder to encode those ac3 files into some other format
annoying thing is that, while playing a file i could use the ffdshow tray icon to configure decoder to output to 6 channel, whiloe transcoding theres no such option

so i want to know if there is a software that can let me know what filters are being used and to set them up as required

thank you

Hi!

A "CODEC" can both encode and decode.

A "FILTER" is typically only capable of decoding...

right
sorry

i'm only interested in the filters used during playback or encode

Some players allow you to see exactly which filters are used. Examples are Media Player Classic, BS.Player and ZoomPlayer.

Other tools that can do that are GraphEdit and GSpot.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you - or you're misunderstanding me.

A filter that only DEcodes (PLAY), such as the Cyberlink audio DEcoder/filter, cannot be used to ENcode (CONVERT)...

cyberlink audio decoder will decode the ac3 file

while another software that supports directshow decoding like dbpoweramp or megui will help in encoding it

if i tell megui to force directshow decoding, while encoding an audio file, then i want to know which decoder it uses and i want to be able to configure it

annoying thing about cybelink' decoder is that it always defaults to 2 channel while i want 6 channel output

i know that media player classic can show the filters used and that is an excellent feature but i d like to know if theres any software that can help show the filters being used in other programs

for example, when playing a file, ffdhow puts a tray icon, and right clicking on it shows the filters used and i can set them up

i have tried directshow filter manager, but cyberlink's settings dont seem to stick and always revert back to 2 channel on any new program

i have used graphedit but it tells me that it cannot render the ac3 file because of missing filters, whereas gspot tells me that everything is fine

In that case, I suggest using a decoder that does save your settings.

yes that is what i am doing now

though i think theres still a possibility for such software
it could allow you put some kind of checkpoint or bookmark on the filter you pick, then it could pop up when that filter is being used

i get uncomfortable using ac3filter coz theres too much to choose from and i dont know a thing about adjusting dynamic control etc.

cyberlink's decoder just has the easy stuff which is operable for an idiot like me

anyway thank you all for your replies
