Bare xbox 360 hd-dvd drive??

I see on fleebay there are the bare hd-dvd drives from the external xbox 360 unit for sale. Looks like you would need to little adapter to connect in to an ide port but would it then work? Are the other boards that normally accompany it not needed in a pc environment?

AFAIK, the 360's HD-DVD drive is just a standard IDE drive in a USB enclosure. I think they use some weird miniature IDE connector, but adapters are available so that you can mount it in a 5.25" bay inside your PC.
