Nero Recode and CQ [Archive]

Is threre no way to use Nero Recode Digital AVC with Constant Quality? I see you can set a filesize or bitrate, but I did not see anyway to set the Video for Constant Quality.

I belive to remember that Cons. Quality are unique feature in x264. Nero and other codec use "only" bitrate (singles pass or multipass) and Const quantizer.

that someone correct me if this is wrong.

I was looking for a Const Quantizer, like Handbrake, AutoMKV, MeGui, StaxRip and others provide.

did you try to use 1pass encoding and enter for max and min same quantizer?

Handbrake, AutoMKV, MeGui, StaxRip... all of them are GUIs and use x264. I dont know if handbrake, automkv or staxrip have options for Constan Quantizer (no equal to Constan Quality) or Constan Quality. In x264 you can use 3 different modes: Constan Quality, aka CRF, Constan Quantizer (QP) or Average Bitrate (ABR). All of them are avalible via megui.

Constan Quantizer is available in Nero, Constan Quality no.

Sorry, but I have looked everywhere in the Nero Recode and can not find anyplace to set the Constant Quantizer value. It is not under Video or Options.

A little help??

you can force min and max quantizer in 1pass mode how shon3i said :), should be work fine

There's not really CQ mode in Recode yet. And the bitrate setting is taken into account, so there will be problems if the bitrate is set lower than what is needed if you force min and max quant to some value.
Real CQ mode is under consideration as a feature for Recode3.

Yes i meant for constant quantizer, sinece nero don't have CRF.

so there will be problems if the bitrate is set lower than what is needed if you force min and max quant to some value.
Real CQ mode is under consideration as a feature for Recode3.I've just checked this on one movie, and works just fine.

Ahh, recode3, how much we need to wait to see that ;)

At least with AVC when I just checked, it does create problems if you set low min/max quant, and don't set bitrate high enough. So use at your own risk, there's no official CQ mode yet.

Since CQ is not available. Does anyone have a good BPP rate they would recommend? 0.18?

I look forward to it. Do you have a "rough" date?Not yet. Features aren't even set yet for Recode3. And there will be first a bigger update for Recode2, including new encoding architechture, updated codecs and so on.

Sadly, after many attempts, I have never had any successful results with any 1-pass features with Recode 2. Just being honest JohnV.

As of now, you will only get good results with Recode if you use 2-pass.

As well, Recode's 1-pass tends to need several frames before if finds the right quantizer, hence you may end up with bad video the first few frames/seconds/minutes etc. I guess you need the "perfect" settings, but I haven't found them.
