WM File Editor in the WME9 tools suite will allow you to save segments from a video. Just mark in, mark out and then save file.

would that work for re-joining hd-wmv files - keeping them in sync ?

WM File Editor in the WME9 tools suite will allow you to save segments from a video...If I'm not mistaken, it will do it only on key frames.
Another good reason to reduce the default WME's 8 sec to a more reasonable 1-2 sec.

Actually, WME's default is 5 seconds, which I think is a decent default. 1-2 seconds makes sense for HD-DVD/BD and broadcast IPTV, and neither are target scenarios for WME.

In my experience, "Key frame interval" default was 8 sec in every installation of WME9 (Compression tab under Properties).
It can be changed, what I routinely do.

I think 1-2 sec is better because if you are going to cut pieces out of the resulting encode, fade-ins (outs) are usually long enough to get one key frame (where you normally would want to cut).

If the original is a hidef transport/program stream, it is better to cut first (e.g. using VideoReDo that does it on any I/B/P frame) and encode later.

Hello,

The last time i had to split a wmv-hd file, i used asfTools, it worked like a charm.
It did the cut after the next key-frame so i was able to choose a cut point exactly at a scene change and there's no duplicated data (could me re-merged)..
I also tried WME Splitter but i ran into troubles i dont remember.
