what's produced by DIVX software ?

Hi, thought I may have a better chance of an answer in this forum ... I was hoping to get away without yet another piece of software... hence wanting to understand what was produced by the DivX thingy and replicate it with what I already had - one or some combination of FFMPEG (preferably), X.264, XVID, Nero 7 full.

Anyone done an AVIcodec or a GSPOT on one of the .AVI/.divx files and/or know the answer ? If you do know, any suggestions on an equivalent FFMPEG command line ?
