Hi all. I would like to know how is it that CoreAVC codec is included with Klite codec pack?
I went to CoreAVC website and it stated there that it is a paid codec. Even the sticky on MPEG-4 AVC subforum states that it is a $10-20 codec.
CoreAVC is also available for download at free-codecs.com. So are both Klite codec pack and this website illegal? :thanks:

To put things simply - yes.
CoreAVC is payware.

I don't know what's in that pack or on free-codecs, but the alpha versions (0.04) were, and I guess still should be, free.

Their not and has been stated many times by coreavc. Those were limited time beta tests and use should discontinue because the beta is over. So it's still illegal to distribute.

And they're alpha versions... I'm amazed they'd still be regarded as decoding and playing back at anything approaching a decent rate when compared against the latest versions!

It's still a little faster than ffdshow/libavcodec, though not as much as at release. Depending on your system, ffdshow+queuing might even be more stable for watching HD. (But all the multicore versions from pre-1.0beta on are much faster.)
