Haven't got permission to pre-release the fix. So nothing new. If it changes, I'll update.

To be precise, the problem is/was in the ac3 decoding chain when processing a DVD 5.1ch. The actual AAC encoding in Recode is working correctly, but it gets the messed up DVD AC3 5.1 LFE input, so the audio encode ends up like that too.
This is exactly my experience - sorry if i didn't word it clearly in my last response. I'm ok for now, now that i've found my own personal temporary fix, but look forward to the release date, whenever that may be. :thanks:
What i find interesting about all this is that even though there was talk of a fix in progress on this forum, tech support - who i was in touch with about the issue before discovering this thread, and also after the mention of a fix was made - knew nothing of the problem whatsoever and continued to repeat their "cure-all" of "it must be a problem in your install, please run Nero clean tools..".
I even managed to send them surround sound video demostration files of both (positive and negative) situations with the same source and a walkthru on how to replicate the problem. Even stating that the problem was evident with clean installs on two different machines with different (and also clean) OSes (XP Pro and Vista Home Premium).
I long for the day when tech support (in general, for all companies) is as "with it" as the software engineering side! :)
Cheers,
JohnV

soon as in ...?

Soon.. The fix is not a filter fix, it's Recode.exe, and it will be from official build (even though published beforehand). Little delay, but it doesn't take long anymore and this bug will be gone.

Hey JohnV,
Will this fix all channels now? I dont think there was any other channel messing up, but it will fix all that right?

Hey I have also noticed a bug, I didnt know where I should put it... but when you save a custom profile with Recode.. it will remember all the settings except for how many pass's you want it to do! Like 1-pass or 2-pass. It does this on three other machines I got.

Bug confirmed, but there are more glitches in the custom profile system. It needs a bit of an overhaul :)
Anyway, I'm glad the audiofix will be out soon!

Hello JohnV - Any ideas as to when the updates might be available? Thanks, KevinNot any better ideat than "soon". Or I don't want to say something more exact cause can't be 100% sure. Very soon is still the best I can say.

And not sure if this came up earlier in the thread or not, but I first discovered this problem streaming my mpeg4s from my PC to my new Helios X3000. At first I thought it was the Helios, but alas...

So being bored I decided to read back on this topic, and JohnV stated that this so called "fix" is completed and just waiting authorization. Which is fine dont get me wrong, but also stated that a month ago that it would be released within a month. So I am still waiting along with all you other fellow peeps and slowly losing my faith in the whole Ahead company itself. So I all I can say is :bump: again! Voice your opinions.

Thats exactly why software developers or companies are so hesitant to give out specific dates as to when software/patches/whatever are coming out.
I'm waiting for the patch, too, and thats pretty much all we can do...wait.

Funny it took me a while to find any information about the LFE problem and I can understand why as in my case it was worse on certain movies and in some the LFE tone is minimal and on others it was unwatchable. I, as others assumed it was the ouput, speakers, AC3 decoder etc.. but I found a workaround on the Doom 9 forums I use the 'Belight' gui with Nero Digitals AAC codec, the resulting file has no LFE issue now I simply use 'Yamb' to mux the AAC stream into a new .MP4 file that I created with Nero Recode 2 (sans audio obviously) a small pain but it works!
Since I'm using the AAC Nero digital encoder (but with an different executable) and the LFE tone is not present I would assume the fix should be a minor one so I'm surprised it's taking so long myself.
On a side note I have tried a few other programs to encode to h.264 but only Nero recode offers the AAC 5.1 channel option, Main Concept's encoder does 2 channel as well as Cyberlinks Power encoder. :sly:

Don't lose faith unrealism.. :)
If it had been a filter fix, it would be out already. But since it was .exe, and it was decided to go as official route as possible, delay happened..
But it can't take long anymore.

its cool bro, I was just razzin ya a bit. I absolutely love the Nero Suite!! I ain't gonna lie, if Divx would update there with Nero I think it would work, but only cause it is a wide range format. I love nero except for it seems to be specific to the nero package. Ain't no biggie, just waiting patiently and bumpin the thread so it doesnt get back to the bottom.
Cheers

I have doing some testing withe AAC 5.1 options and with Nero recode I use the CBR at 160 to 192kps
with 'Belight' and the Nero Digital encoder you can use VBR so I ran a few files through the different VBR mode and I found that the VBR 'Streaming' option results in a file close to the CBR settings but it has a much better Dynamic range the highs are not a muddy (VBR so I assume it gets more data). I was wondering why Nero Recode doesn't offer the VBR modes under the custom profiles or advanced settings as I would love to be able to use them as well as the default CBR settings.
On a side note I have also ran many tests with bitrates for the main movie and I was amazed at how little a difference you can actually see from 400Kps all the way up to 1.4Mps!! I have settled for 600Kps for my encodes as I found the only difference at 400Kps was a loss of overall brightness to the picture.

Hi,
the Recode.exe from the following archive is supposed to fix the problem with the constant LFE tone when encoding ND from AC-3 coming from DVD:
http://ftp4.de.nero.com/software/patches/Recode_2_5_6_0_lfefix_20070807.zip
Please make a backup of your old Recode.exe and then exchange it with the new one.

Thanks, a few more tests are needed, but it sounds pretty good to me for the one recode I did (Hannibal Rising)!

I tried 4 more titles, including Galaxy Quest (the one I had the telecidine blurring issue with a few months back), and everything looks and sounds wonderful! Although I really wish the "Normal" 5.1 audio option was MUCH louder. I set it to Very High, and it still doesn't sound quite as loud as the original 5.1.
In any case, thanks much!

I've been looking forward to getting home all day to try the new 'fixed' version of Recode. I just converted the lobby shooting spree from The Matrix using the previous version (2.5.5) and the new version (2.5.6). I then stripped out the audio tracks using Yamb. I then loaded both audio files into Nero WaveEditor and can visually confirm that the problem is gone! The .aac file from v2.5.5 shows nothing but a constant low frequency tone on the LFE channel while the .aac file from v2.5.6 shows a 'normal' LFE track.
Thanks for getting this out there! Time to start re-Recoding my files!

Did one last night and works great!! I did notice one thing, I am not sure if it is normal or a bug...
When you encode with Standard AVC & HDTV AVC you can disable the "Letterbox (Square Pixel)" option, but in the Cinema profile you can not. Is there a reason why? Also just for a opinion has anyone had any issues leaving that checked? I noticed on one movie I had black borders on the left and right of the movie.
Also one more question, I encode usually with Standard AVC @ 2MPS, and tried a 3MPS with HDTV AVC and notice on my Samsung HDTV it seems to be slightly blurry compared to the original... is this normal with compression? Or is there a setting I am missing?
THANKS FOR THE FIX!!! :)

Thank you for this fix! Had the same problem.
But is there a fix for german versions too. My recode is now only in Englisch... Not that I have a huge problem with it but it would be nice to have all Nero tools in the same language :)
but anyway i appreciate your work.
