Hi Guys,
I recorded a cricket match in mpeg2 format. Encoded it with resize (lanzcos) and x264 codec with default settings, in vdub-mpeg2.
Sample is as shown
http://www.sendspace.com/file/k34e9y
Problem I face is the immense blocking during motion. Is there any way to improve the video above without increasing the bitrate? Doesnt help when i use the deblocking option in x264 codec, or deblocking filters. I might be doing it wrong, so pls feedback is much appreciated.
Wd it be better if i record it in DVD(6mb) format given in wintv? Im using mpeg2 option now.
Any help will be appreciated. I thank you in advance.

@Mr.D
Hi!
Did your original MPEG-2 capture exhibit the same blockiness?

Hey setarip, thx for replying.
Yes the original mpeg2(svcd) recorded showed the same amount of blockiness.
I have tried using deblockers, x264 deblocking etc but it doesnt help. I was wondering was there something Im unaware of or doing wrong.
Was hoping pple who have done sports, with such detail, can shed some light on this.

Hey I do a lot that stuff [cricket I mean] !!!
I use WinDVR to capture the MPEG-2 streams -
And in the VDubMod I use the Smoothen filter !!!
Try it n check if ya see any difference !!!

^ Ok will try that. But wdnt that make it more difficult to see the ball? Like in cricket, wdnt be of any use just seeing the guy swinging the bat, and then unable to see where the tiny ball ends up
The picture might be less blocky but it wd make it harder to see small details like the ball.
I will try tho. If there any other ideas, pls share. Thanks once again.

Have you tried my suggestion?

^ I have a hauppauge tv tuner. It allows formats of mpeg2(svcd),mpeg1, and DVD(6mb).
Doesnt have any option for increasing bitrate. Im trying DVD(6mb) now.

Or capture in lossless to see if it's still present. That'll tell you for sure. Keep in mind if it's from a low-grade source like standard-def. satellite tv you'll always see blocking in high-motion scenes because the bitrate used in broadcasting it isn't as high as it should be.
^ Actually wd prefer capturing using huffyv codec in lossless format in vdub, but my tv tuner doesnt seem to be able to do so with vdub

Any ideas?

It shouldn't be an issue with your capture card unless it doesn't support YUY2 colorspace. In any case, try lagarith included in ffdshow if you haven't already.
