View Full Version : 1040p WMV playback

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (stock, no OC)
1gb DDR-SDRAM

I'm attempting to play back a 1920x1040 WMV file, but I'm having trouble. mplayer plays the file in sync with the audio but the framerate is poor, especially in fast motion scenes. Playback with WMP11 is too slow (all frames are rendered but the audio quickly becomes far out of sync). MPC and VLC play about 1/2 a second smoothly and in sync, but then the frame freezes. Pausing and waiting will allow the image to 'catch up' to the audio, and will play smoothly for another 1/2 a second before freezing again.

My question is this: Am I having a codec problem, or is my CPU simply too slow?

Your CPU should be more than enough (you're way beyond the 3000+ mark ;))
I think that the problem comes from your video card. Get the latest drivers for it and see if it helps.

I'm already running the latest drivers, but I'm not sure if that would make a difference; I'm not using Purevideo.

On a slightly weird note, I installed the Zoomplayer 5.5 aplha, and set it to use the Haali renderer. This plays the file without a hitch. However, setting MPC to use the Haali renderer results in even worse performance than before!
