Just to announce that a project which I mentioned here many moons ago is now complete. It's called DVMP, and here's some blurb about it....
There are two versions: Basic and Pro.
"DVMP Basic" plays DV AVI files while simultaneously displaying
timecode, date and time of recording, and other metadata such as f-stop, shutter speed, auto-exposure mode, white balance etc. The metadata is displayed in a pane beneath the video as it is playing and is frame-accurate. You can also frame step back or forward, and jump forward or backward between "scenes". It is compatible with PAL and NTSC (drop and non-drop frame) and displays 4:3 and 16:9 material correctly on screen.
Here is a list of the metadata that is displayed:
* Timecode
* Date and Time of Recording
* Shutter speed
* Exposure (f-stop)
* Auto-Exposure Mode
* Gain in dB
* Image stabiliser on/off
* White Balance Mode
* White Balance Setting
* Audio details
"DVMP Pro" has some additional features, probably the most interesting of which is the ability to burn all or selected items of DV metadata into the video frame itself. So you could for example just choose timecode to be burned into the video, or all of the above metadata information too.
It is also possible to export DV metadata to a CSV file that can be imported into Excel or most other spreadsheet and database programs.
You can also select metadata items and then instantly jump to frames where those items changed. So you could for example instantly jump to frame positions where the auto-exposure mode changed, or the image stabiliser was switched on or off, or white balance settings changed, and so on.
DVMP (whether Basic or Pro) is a single standalone program file. It does NOT install any codecs or DLLs onto your PC and doesn't change any of your system settings. And you can de-install it just by deleting the program file. It couldn't be simpler or safer!
