I'm looking for an editor like Virtualdubmod, but it what I really need is an app, a player or whatever, that shows the actual playing time in the format mins:secs:millisecs, the OSD of ffdshow only shows mins and secs, but I need to know milliseconds !
thanks !

You can turn on Frame Timestamps in ffdshow OSD to get high-resolution timers - but they're very high resolution, 100 nanoseconds, so all but the first few digits will be noise to you. There are probably even better solutions, but I'm too distracted to think of them right now.

you can open the mkv file with some subtitle editors like aegisub to get more accurate playing time display

Only if you use DGAVCDec (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=122598) as an Avisynth source filter. Using the default DirectShowSource() methode is extremly unreliable, with display of a wrong frame when seeking.

thanks to everybody, for now I'm using Subtitle Workshop or Zoom Player Pro and the Scene Cut Editor
