Fund raising: get Arnezami a blu-ray player

I have been keeping an eye on the good work that everyones been doing with AASC, I take note that Arnezami seams to be one of the major forces in this charge and has been able to do alot without even having access to a blu-ray player. He is having to rely on feedback from other members which is obviously a bottleneck preventing him from working efficiently.

What do you folks think about holding a fund raiser on this forum so that we can try and aquire a drive for him, consider that it would be going to a good cause, and be a reward for the work that he's already put in.

I don't own any high-def devices, and am not looking to get into that for a number of years yet, but I can still see the sence in supporting the cracking of aacs, one peice at a time.

Would anyone be interested in pledging some cash for this?

How much are blu-ray drives anyway, whats a good model to aim for? or would a PS3 be a more obvious attack vector to consider. Seams to me like most people will be getting blu-ray through that route.

b) How can I send money to someone without revealing who I am? I suppose I could walk over to Western Union outlet, and fill in some bogus info for the sender, but still you will know what part of the world I am from.

Suggestions?

One word: PayPal.

All you need is email address. Which can be open for the only time necessary and closed after the transaction.

He can provide email address thru PM to someone who can be trusted.

But first things first.

Yes, he sets up his own paypal account and we can send funds his way. Arnezami just needs to be sure he does'nt add any of his information on the paypal site other then his bank account info (which nobody else can access). I would still inquire with Paypal first to make sure it is 'Secure' and no other info can be given out to others and maybe get a separate account just incase.

But, if you guys figure out a way...I am IN.

Open a website w/PayPal donations and post an innocent program to download and accept donations for this program.

Sadly Paypal is an American company (Subsidiary of eBay, right?), and with all sorts of various anti-consumer laws (DMCA, etc), and ability of AACS-LA to claim sufficiently high financial losses, I am not too sure that PayPal will not cough up the personal banking information to the first entity that sends them an official-looking fax on an appropriate letterhead.

I guess I'm supposed to say something here ;).

I really like the gesture. But there is no way on earth I'm going to take money or anything else for this. And I have no shortage of money anyway. Aside from that it would feel like it would (morally) obligate me which is the last thing I want. I want to be able to do this out of my own free will and pocket. I really like my indepenancy.

PS. Maybe some kind of technical solution for this problem would be a nice challenge for you guys ;). Like iSCSI over long distance tcp/ip or something. And that would potentially not just benefit one person.

Great idea - he should VNC into ther people's PCs and run all of his software in debug mode :-)

That way he can test a dozen Blu-Ray drives in one night's work :-)

Also, perhaps we can buy a Samsung Blu-Ray player/drive with a Panasonic drive CPU for Galileo2000 so he can firmware hack it to give us future Blu-Ray Volume IDs ;-)

... then arnezami can remotely log into Galileo2000's PC and they can both pair-program the !@#$ out of AACS ;-)

... then if the MPAA catches either of them on US soil they each receive summary castrations or other such extrajudicial punishments :-(

I would love to help Arnezami to get a BR drive but because I don't want that something bad happened to him, I'll just say no !

FYI :
I's sure that you must have a verified Paypal account to be able to get the money out of this account (so Paypal will have his adress... And if $ome company ask to the court, they will oblige Paypal to reveal them these information)
Even if somebody order directly to a shop, the same will happen because the shop will be oblige to reveal the shipping adress.
So no, it is not possible to do that.
