The Asharp filter that people seem to like behaves strangely... I use a graph that outputs video via the Sonic Video decoder 4.2 and when I use Asharp, the left half of the video is tinted purple. The other have is totally fine. Has anyone ever seen that? I couldn't find any info on that symptom. As far as I know, I have the latest version (from the developer's site).

Also, what other sharpeners do people like? Im looking for a good way to restore a little sharpness after resizing a 1080p source to a 720p destination. Nothing major.

MarcFD's plugins never really handle chroma well. You might be able to get away with it if you have mod16 or mod32 video, but asharp and awarpsharp both have serious bugs in their chroma processing.

Sharpeners I like: SeeSaw normally, LimitedSharpenFaster for really heavy sharpening, warpsharp for thinner edges.

Uhm... Probably its not that aSharp doesnt handle the chroma well, but that you feed non YV12 stuff to a filter that needs YV12 input, huh?

I would just like to add that fft3dfilter/fft3dgpu are my personal favorite for gentle denoising and sharpening. They would probably be rather slow for HD material, but if you have a fast video card fft3dgpu isn't too bad :)

Just operate on luma (plane=0) and try starting with sharpen=.5 or maybe .8. It's subtle, but good for restoring sharpness to a downconversion IMO.

Thanks for the input. Fortunately for me, the speed is not important as this is not for real-time playback. It's just feeding frames to a video encoder which takes a million years to encode anyway :rolleyes:
