Decrypt HD-DVD to Blu-ray?

If I rip my HDDVD to my hard drive, can I then burn it to a Blu-ray disc and play it back? I am looking to possibly purchase the Sony 8x Internal Blu-ray Disc Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive.

Technically yes, but there are no tools to do it yet.
Not without recompressing the entire movie anyway, which would take days of processing time.

Not true, both formats (EVO and M2TS) contain elementary streams (audio and video) that are made of PES packets, you just have to move them from one container to the other. Absolutely no need for recompression.

Right but there are no tools to convert evo to m2ts.
And there are no tools that will burn non-mpeg2 blu-ray.
So the only way to do it is to recompress to mpeg2 :(

I thought EVOdemux splits the streams fine?
And 'Ulead DVD Movie Factory 6 Plus' definitely lets you re-author Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs from the streams!


Also, in Australia this is illegal - however due to our nice new laws copying the other way from encrypted Blu-Ray original discs onto DVDR-9 HD-DVD discs is entirely legal :-)

Has anyone managed to decrypt the streams from a Blu-Ray disc completely? E.g. like EVOdemux does for HD-DVD.

ulead dvd movie factory 6 plus does NOT let you burn non-mpeg2 content.

I have been able to convert a vc1 hd-dvd to vc1 blu-ray without recompression by using sonic scenarist, but it doesnt play on ps3.

I'm adding this now to my TsRemux program. Hopefully I'll have it working soon. Check out the thread in av containers forum (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125447) in a few days for updates.

Thanks, but without software to author the m2ts to a blu-ray disc it still cant be played.

Q: has the HD Scenarist for Standard Content the same functionality in terms of scripting support like the 'old' DVD version?

Could one think of creating a script generator for BD authoring?
We had something like this for DVD content if I remember correct.

Together with a TS-remuxer or EVODemuxer -whatever way is effective and reliable- this could be a solution.

Microsoft supply studios with a tool to reformat the HD DVD VC1 stream to be BD-compliant, so I'm guessing that without this tool, nothing short of another round of compression would do the job.

Also, surely it would be the case that both systems use different flavours of AVC, again necessitating recompression?

As of today my TsRemux tool can remux EVOBs into M2TSs.

I tried KK(VC1, just a few minutes using the time code selectors in tsremux) with tsremux, selecting Blu-ray output, then burned to DVD-R (UDF 2.5). Playback did occur on my PS3 but was in slow motion with no audio. Is the method I used actually supposed to work? I think BR is 23.976 and HD-DVD is 29.97, correct? Could this have something to do with my slo-motion, or am I misunderstanding, and I can't actually do HD-DVD to Blu-ray with TSRemux?

I've managed to recode some HD DVDs to MPEG2. I had to force the VC-1 to 24000/1001, so I assume that is the true frame rate.
