Hi all!
I am very new to this "art", so i have a question:
following movie:
http://img115.imageshack.us/img115/7237/asdfd4.th.jpg (http://img115.imageshack.us/my.php?image=asdfd4.jpg)
is it possible to get with this source material in mpeg2 that looks well at TV?
At PC the avi looks fine, in mpeg2 baaaad :(
With current encoding in TMPGEnc there are artefacts when "moving" s in the movie ... not only small but big notable annoying ones
any tips how to set up tpgenc? or should I use another encoder? (TMPGEnc Xpress, HC) ?
regards

Just use the MPEG2 on your original DVD.

Ive backupped it last year according to a friends advise to use XviD because I would only view it in PC.
Now the DVD-recorder doesnīt read the DVD any more due to (I assume) a scratch in the surface.
My DVD-Player doesnīt read XviD so I have a problem. And more Quality-loss sucks :(
regards
p.s.: yeah... noone beliefs my story, and so on.. right? For this case I did the backup *rolleyes*

There are a few 1-click tools available to do this, like AVI2DVD (http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAvi2Dvd.html).
You need the Xvid codec to be installed, but I guess it is because you say you can watch the file on your pc.
However, doing it manually usually gives a better result.
Demux in VirtualDubMod, re-encode audio, make an avisynth script, encode the video, make a dvd of it.
This takes some work and time, it isn't something you learn in 5 minutes. There are some great guides available to do it step by step.

yeah I did already very well .. aviSynth Scrip into TMPGEnc, ac3-enoce of sound via VDub and Authoring ..
but the .m2v-files have such a bad quality :(
can I make a good result with this source?
because the current is bad bad :(

Hi!Now the DVD-recorder doesnīt read the DVD any more due to (I assume) a scratch in the surface.
1) Try cleaning your original DVD
2) Try using DVDFab Decrypter (freeware) to make a backup - It's good at replacing damaged/unreadable sectors with "dummy" sectors

You can't make it better than it is. Transcoding from one format to another is always a loss in quality. However, when your XviD-AVI was produced properly, you should be able to re-produce a rather good m2v stream for your dvd. If the quality of your m2v is a lot worse than your AVI, there must be something wrong with your settings. I'm not familiar with TMPGEnc, but I don't believe it's the best encoder around. Maybe you should try HC (http://www.bitburners.com/HC_Encoder/), which is also free and produces very good quality. Some say it's as good as Cinema Craft Encoder (not free).

It's not HC outputting it, since it doesn't care about audio at all; it must be avisynth. Try adding audio=false to the avisource in the script.
