Sometimes I get brief flickers of noisy video blocks on
DVD playback. The scrambled blocks always appear at the
same place in the video. The blocky distortion appears
even when I rip to a local file. I assume this noise
comes from flaws in the disk where video data is lost
and the DVD drive cannot do error correction. I don't
see this noise when I play back the DVD on a consumer
setup DVD player. I assume these must have some sort
of way to detect and interpolate the missing or
corrupt data. Could the noise be from something else?
This has happened even with brand new DVDs.
I have attached an example of the blocky video noise.

I'm using MPlayer 1.0rc1-4.0.2. Is there a way I can
get MPlayer or some other software to smooth over
these noisy parts?

Hi!

Does the same problem occur if you use a different software player?

Could be only a few frames, skipped by the SAP on playback, as they are programmed to do so, possible !!!
