Hi,
I've been messing with virtualdub for a while now and I was wondering if anyone who knows the workings of virtualdub as well as DVfilm maker can tell me how to get the same results in virtualdub as in DVfilm maker (http://www.dvfilm.com/maker/)
I'm looking to have the settings I would have if I didn't touch any of the advanced settings in DVfilm maker. I have a video and I love the way it looks when I check "deinterlace," "24p motion" and "Red boost" in DVfilm maker. I don't change any of the settings in advanced options. In virtualdub, it seems I can do almost the same thing. I've used the smart deinterlacer (which seems to do about the same thing- deinterlaces when motion is present) and I used the color adjustment to add some red and then converted to 24p in the "frame rate" menu. I'm getting close, but it just doesn't seem to look as smooth and nice as with DVfilm maker. Now, I'm using the DVfilm maker demo and I don't have 145 bucks laying around, so I thought, if I could get this result for using all free software, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi!

You might want to do a Googlesearch for "VirtualDub filters" (INCLUDE the quotation marks), as there are many different deintelrace filters available for use in VirtualDub - some reputed to be far better than "smart deinterlacer"...

Hey,
Thanks for the reply. I realize there are many deinterlacing filters for virtualdub and I have done several google searches and have downloaded several of the filters already. My question, is what filters and settings are going to give me the closest results to what I would get in DVfilm maker. I'm don't know how all the filters in DVfilm maker work and I don't know one deinterlacer from the other.
If there is anyone that knows the specific workings of DVfilm maker and virtualdub, help in this area would be much appreciated. Thanks
Dann

How did I know you were going to say that?
Again, if there is anyone out there that actually understands the differences in deinterlacers and has used virtualdub and DVfilm maker and would like to give me a hand, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

I suggest you re-read the rules :) You sort of cross-posted (two threads on basically the same topic)... and you're being a little cross with setarip_old..

The topic you're asking about is complex. Converting (I'm assuming) NTSC 29.97fps interlaced DV to 24p requires that you first bob-deinterlace to 59.94 fps progressive and then blend the result down to 23.976fps. One of the higher quality ways of doing this is by using AviSynth and its TDeint and MVTools plugins. PM me and I can send you a sample script.
