OK I'm really not a newbie but then I guess I am...
Have used Decrypter and Shrink and Instant Copy many a time to back up my DVD's. I am now completely stumped.
I have a region 2 from Spain that I am trying to back up. The original plays fine in my Laptop. The twins play fine in both the laptop and PC. But none will play properly on stand alone (including the original).
I have an older Pioneer and a very new Sony stand alone...Pioneer..the playback looks like major copyprotection; b&w and jumps, never stops.. the Sony..just says not able to play.
Yes I have used DVD Fab, yes I have made region free, yes I have vob'd to region one, yes I have used Ripit4me. I have checked the backups and the properties show this. Yes, I have slowed the write speed, my burner is working just fine as I backed up a couple of other titles. Now the only thing I can figure is that PAL to NSTC. Could this be why it wouldn't play in the stand alones?
I have researched and tried the new configuration for the Pioneer (DV-333) and no effect on region change. Do not have a configuration for the Sony (SLV-D560P)
Tried it in my PS2 and unable to play. No Configuration available for change of region. First with orig sony's error not correct region, then on twin..can not play. Title: Mephisto Waltz. Am I Doomed to watch it on the small screen....

If this is the only PAL DVD you have, then that's the problem. You may want to pass the vobs through DGPulldown before burning the DVD.

Hi!PAL to NSTC. Could this be why it wouldn't play in the stand alones?Yes, it is.

Unfortunately, I don't believe the suggestion by "[P]ako" is viable by itself, if you want to retain your ful original DVD structure. Read the information at the follwoing link:

Thanks for the input, I was afraid that it may be the PAL.
I'll try the link and see if it helps...
Just hate all the time this is going to take.

To all who have problems with playing backed-up dvd's single and dual layer, and/or TV systems .
The answer is 'el-cheapo' stand alone, for example 'Karbon' player. In Canada, The Brick was selling 'Karbon' for 28.88. I bought two of them. It is region free, so it plays all types of DVD's regardless of region, PAL or NTSC, or how many layers.
Take with you a back-up DVD, and/or original DVD, go to the store, find the cheapest player and try your disks.
I have yet to find a dvd 'Karbon' could not play.

Most equipment, regardless of whether its Hifi's, TV's, DVD players etc are now 'world' systems. Thats the reason why the Karbon player can play those disks. In Australia all DVD players and TV's (not really old ones of course) can play both PAL and NTSC.

Anyway, the reason why they are 'world' systems is because its much cheaper to manufacture a system thats compatible with many systems (which in itself may make it very fractionally more expensive) rather than making separate equipment designs (electronics wise) for different regions. Many even use universal power supplies and just have the default settings set to a particular country's requirements but are in fact practically identical. Sometimes they may have a different case or labelled as a different brand. Most of the times they use power supplies for the area (so for US thats what 110/120V? 60hz), and in another country they may use the 220-240v (compatible) 50hz power supplies but both have the same output (say DC 12v or whatever that particular system uses).

Now the person with the Karbon player may have one of two things. That is, the player can play in PAL and the TV automatically switches to the PAL mode (as long as the input mode is set to auto) or the output of the DVD player is set to NTSC. Note however if you output from PAL DVD to the NTSC format, you lose some resolution (PAL 576 vs NTSC 480) plus it will be jerky because of the refresh rate difference.

Most DVD players, even those that are locked, are DVD region free capable. Some require the use of an unlocking DVD (which is pointless because they often cost more than a new DVD player), or a special input sequence which varies from brand to brand and even model to model. Most of that information is available on the internet. My Grunding 3654 DVD player is now region free as I accessed the hidden menu and set it to region 9 (which is the region free mode on that particular model), or generally its called region 0.

So check through your DVD player menu's/handbook, and TV's menu's/handbooks. As stated, preferable output from the DVD is set to auto (so it swaps between PAL&NTSC as required) and the TV set to auto (if that option is available) as that will give you the best quality and smoothest motion. If you can't do that on your TV, set the output from the DVD player it is playing from to output it as NTSC (as it sounds like it can play PAL&NTSC), and you will be able to watch it, however remember that you will have a lower definition picture, and also the motion effect of conversion between 25 frames and 30 frames.

Well have tried the link..got a DVD+RW that not only doesn't play but I can't erase it. As for the last two posts...My Players are both 'locked' to region 1. I have searched the net and thought I found a sequence for the PS2 and the DV-333 but neither worked. Any unlock codes?
I have downloaded a lot of software from here, afterdawn and videohelp, to covert. Since this is new territory for me (the Pal>NTSC) I guess I'll have to go through a learning phase and make more coasters...
Going to try FulciLives guide from vidoehelp amd see if that works:

Uses TMPGEnc Plus 2.5x . Wish me luck..will update progress.
