I have a MKV file with video encoded in x264 and I want to move it to AVI container without re-encoding of course. the problem is, when I open it in VDMod it can't recognize the FourCC (it's always displaying "yyyy" as unknown) which is avc1, so I can't even use direct stream copy! all the other information (res, fps, streams) is read correctly. Any other way to convert container to AVI?

use mkvextact to extract the streams, then use avc2avi to convert the .264/.h264/.avc file to .avi then open the .avi in VDub and go to Streams -> Stream List and add the audio file then go Direct Stream Copy.

thanks, that worked but with one very little problem: even though I specified fps of 23.976 it came out 23.975 but that not a big deal cause I can just change it in VDMod when I mux it with the audio.
