View Full Version : MCBob - how to prevent chroma smear?

I've just started using MCBob on NTSC DV with lots of straight lines. The result is very impressive. I'm not sure how to correct the chroma smearing. It's almost as if luma is being deinterlaced but chroma is just blended. Does anyone have experience tweaking this?

Related to that, is there a way to make the chroma less 4:1:1-ish so diagonal lines aren't so jaggy? (I'm already using 4:1:1 helper to interpolate. The question is more one of using edge detection to make the process more accurate.)

Oops. I didn't notice the bitmap titles don't show here. The second image is Smart Deinterlace, fields only, edges, motion, 10. The blue smear is what I'm trying to reduce. Maybe it's not possible due to 4:1:1. There is a similar smear at the brown vertical pieces but it's not as obvious.

Look at how well MCBob handled the small pieces on the floor!

The smearing is present even if you just SeparateFields() or Bob() the source image so it's not an MVBob issue.

I was thinking that might be the case. Maybe the chroma contrast between the blue and the surrounding beige/tan makes it more visible. That blue and reds cause all kinds of problems. Grrr...

Do have a little bit of source I can check out? I might not be able to do anything with it, but I have a few ideas on how to help oversaturated bleeding.

Sure. 128 frames from this portion are going up to http://www.corrugatedmachines.com/ChromaSmearSample.avi (49M). There are a few frames where I paused but it's mainly handheld panning of this portion of the machine.
