View Full Version : Quality changes when adding subtitles & compressing AVIs. Solution?

Hello,

When I try to add VobSub (IDX/SUB) subtitles in VirtualDubMod, or even without adding them, it's not actually the problem, I just add VobSub filter (Of course Full processing mode should be set), and I use XviD codec or DivX, but in both cases I don't get the same quality and/or size. If I used XviD codec (the file originaly in XviD codec) the quality and size would be lower, and if I used DivX codec, also the quality would be lower (much), so I wanted to ask how can I add subtitles (VobSub or textual) to the movie without changing the file size and most importantly the quality?

For example, I have a 700MB movie (AVI, XviD), and I want to add subtitles to it (hardcode VobSub or .srt), so I can play it both on PC and stand alone DVD player, but I don't want the quality or the size to be changed.

PS: If I used 'Direct stream copy' that would save the quality and file size, but it wouldn't allow me to add subtitles (can't use the filters then).

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Thanks for your suggestion, but that doesn't help me much in my case, because I work with XviD/AVI files, I don't "rip" DVDs.
I was hoping to find a way to add subtitles to XviD files without changing the quality and file size, I hope VDM experts would have a solution :o.
