Encoding problems

I have a video file .avi file which had its fourCC : JPGL and
Video Codec: DIVIO JPEG Light for WebCams (Pegasus Lossless JPEG)

I downloaded the lossless jpeg codec and installed it but the video file cannot be played.

Then I let that part go then i tried to get the webcam driver with which i had recorded this video file. I got the webcam driver. Now that i dont have the webcam (hardware) i dont know how to just install the driver. Can anyone guide me in installing the driver ? Basically i want to play the video files so probably after i install the driver the dll's etc would get registered then the files probably can be played.

Just in case if anyone can download and help me try to actually install it.

Have you tried decompressing the contents, right clicking on the .inf file and selecting "Install"?

Ya i did try to install the inf file. I did right click and try to install it. BUt it still dint work. I tried to read the inf file and check if the registry entries are being made... but couldnt understand much of it and couldnt verify exactly if all dll's were registered and if all entries were made.

I am a starter in all this and i dont know much about codecs and how to use it. I installed the exe which i got from the link given below. After installing it I just have VFW configuration , audio config and video config in it. I thought probably the codecs would be getting associated with wmplayer etc. But I tried running it it still dint help. Is there something more i need to do ? or this codec also doesnt work ? :(

N i have tried installing ACE mega codec and KLite codec also. It still dint work.

Oh dude you just did the wrong thing, codec packs are EviL© xD

Uninstall them right now and pray that you didn't break your system (no joke, sadly ...).

If there was an .inf file with a .dll file next to it, chances are it was a VFW codec, not a DirectShow codec (and windows media player uses directshow, not vfw ...). The only way you'll be able to open that video with a VFW codec is via ... virtualdub, vegas, or adobe premiere. From there, you can reencode your video to XviD, MPEG, or something else more consumer-friendly :)

I can't actually check what's at the url you gave in the first post since the server times out each time I try ...

One other thing worth noting: Lossless JPG (Pegasus or not) sounds much like MJPEG to me (even if the fourCC is different).

Actually, you can try this :
- Open ffdshow's Video decoder options
- Go to the codecs section (by default you might already be there when you open the options)
- Find the line starting with "MJPEG".
- Set the decoder next to it to "libavcodec" instead of "disabled".
- Click apply + ok and try opening the video again.
- Do the same thing in the VFW configuration, in the "Decoder" tab. (just in case).
- If it doesn't work, you'll be forced to use some other software to convert the video to something else.

It was already with libavcodec. But still dint work out.

And i dint understand the part where you explaining about VFW and DirectShow. I understood but then I just installed an exe so i am not able to recognise if it is VFW or DirectShow.

Anyways I just want to play that file. So if i have a VFW codec then virtualdub, vegas, or adobe premiere can i download one of these and play the file ? If any alternative do let me know.

I have total convertor and tried to convert it with it but it dint help as total convertor couldnt recognise the file so it converted to mpg but not visible.

Yeah.. now i downloaded virtualdub. Tried running the file but it again said couldnt locate decompressor for JPGL. :(

Actually, nightrhyme answered you here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=988457#post988457 with the steps he followed about the problem. I hope this works for you (though I doubt he did it the correct way ...).

The drivers/codecs he mentionned originally are here <dead link removed> (I mirrored them just in case).
The zip contains an .ax file, which means it's a directshow filter. Good news for you :)

Be careful, right-click + Install on the .inf file isn't enough, you'll need to apply nightrhyme's fix too.

Oh well i had tried what nightrhyme had informed. It still dint work out. SO after getting that JPGL.dll i thought i will take the exact driver and installed the inf file. WIth the same driver also it dint run.

I think you also provided me a new driver but with it also it doesnt work. I fail to understand where i am missing.

Back at home I just connect the USB webcam and then it says u need to install this driver. I go through the wizard and complete the installation. And after that i am able to play the files. Dont know that just that when i dont have the webcam installing the driver is not possible or something is missing.

Is there something like the installation of dlls is not happening properly? But then I tried nightrhymes solution also by making entries in the registries. Are there any other places also where i need to make the entries ?

Anyways I just want to play that file.Try using "VLC player" - it uses its own built-in codecs...
