hello.

more automatization routines for gknot:

1. auto find a siutable resolution basing on a selected first/second pass range and resolution range.

the point is: it doesnt really matter what res your rip is in, unless quality is good, right? you just need to find one that doesnt look too little/large and hits 1/2pass ratio the right way.

ie: i want gknot to find a siutable resolution for me in 512x-704x range and first/second pass ratio to be 66-75%. all data in a bitrate calc is written. so gknot builds himself a compressibility check with some resolution, if f/s_pass_ratio is out of range, then it estimates a bit, raises/lowers a resolution, then calculated first/second pass again.

that feature can also be improved to auto-suggest resize method :/

2. ***please make a possibility to enable smart deinterlace after ivtc for badly telecined stuff. you even can make these plugins configurable.***

3. lol, there could be a flask-like frontend for gknot written. instead of bitrate/resolution stuff it operates with:

desired audio quality.
resolution range
1/2pass_ratio
filesize
noise and ivtc/deinterlace methods (because that thing still cant be automated enough to work seamlessly)

it can be simplified to work only with dvd source and make good enough rips with 5 numbers entered and a several checkboxes.

if that can be done, we will have an ultimate tool for newbies with rare dvds :)

re: #1
is it so hard to move resolution slider left/right untill you get acceptable ratio?

re: #2
i'm not exactly, but isn't there's only 1 way to telecine? how can you get "bad telecined" movies?

on#1:

the goal is to make a fully automated process after you have encoded the audio and have d2v project. you just select a res/1/2p_r range and it does all in auto mode. then you can leave your pc and it will do the left job.

anyway all the settings are the same every time, if you have a plenty of space and just want to make a quality backup.

on#2: rofl man =) if you didnt run over one yet dont say they dont exist.

Yeah-I usually enable the Smart Deinterlace after enabling IVTC in GKnot. There are almost always a few interlaced frames left over. As I guess you know, you can enable the deinterlacers by opening up the .avs file and editing it.

thats not for me, these features are for newbies

we are making the next flask here man :D

release groups were satisfied already with nandub .21 as far as i remember.

i still know some release group rippers who are using gknot just as a bitrate/crop/1to2pass_ratio calc.

gknot becomes overloaded with features more and more. and less newbie-friendly too :(

the good things it added were (besides calcs) a luma fix and a stats editor. altho nando made it obsolete with .ecf

some ppl (memememe) just prefer drf-based control, not bitrate-based. in some cases it is better (animation IE).
