Windows Server 2003 will not allow bbMPEG to run, and that program just happens to be the sole application I've ever used to mux svcd a/v, and to cut the mpegs up into 80min cds.

What other software can I use to do this? Currently I am testing an old version of TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools but it's not at all precise with the cutting like bbMPEG is.

Hi!

Does Windows Server 2003 allow you to rightclick on a program, such as bbMPEG, and set it for Win98 or WinXP compatibility?

Yes it does. I tried it on Win2000 and WinXP, and even with 256 colors. They all fail. It's tough without bbMPEG for SVCD muxing and cutting. I've yet to see another program that can do it as effectively, and I've been google'ing all night...

If I remember correctly, you might want to examine "VCDGear" and/or "VCDEasy" (Both handle SVCDs as well as VCDs)...

I find it odd that you haven't heard of VideoReDo and MPEGVCR. Both are commercial products, but you can try them before you buy. If you want to use freeware editors, I firmly believe you get what you pay for, as you are finding out.

VCDEasy attempted to load and then crashed. However, the old VCDGear actually worked at imaging the .mpeg files. I guess on a Windows Server 2003 setup, you can only use TMPGEnc to cut, and VCDGear to image. Crummy!!

I thought VideoReDo was for .ts captures. I've heard it's good with keeping a/v sync on hi-def stuff. But I've never heard much bout using it for SVCD files.

If I remember correctly, VCDGear provides the option of automatically creating 74 or 80 minute "splits" - See the following from "VCDGear News" at:

http://www.vcdgear.com/news.html

Auto image spanning - Got a 900MB [S]VCD you can't fit on one CD? Add your video as a track using the spanning option and VCDGear will automatically split your video into multiple 74min/80min parts and put them onto separate CD images. After that, just burn them and watch! There is NO NEED to demux/remux your 900MB and/or edit your video in an MPEG editor. Think of how much time that'll save you :-)
