xvid on ps2?

Is the xvid format supposed to be able to play on a Play Station 2?
I have a bunch of movies I would like to be able to watch on my TV, but they never play. (I have no DVD player, and since I have a PS2, there is no need for one.)

Anyway, if xvid doesn't play on PS2, how do I go about converting it to something that does?
