Alright, is there any way to create animated buttons with Scenarist, while the main menu continues to run? I've capped an example from 24, so I know it's possible, just not sure if it can be done with Scenarist.

based on the demo you provided, i think it's the background is animating, not the subpicture. (The real animated button example i've seen is the one in the R1 spiderman 1 DVD, but that subpicture is rather crappy and simple, not like this example, the color transition of the effect is so uniform) Since most of the backgrounds are black and the 24:00, 1:00... words are in pure orange yellow, they may be the real subpicture, covering the animating effect. So when you select 24:00, you're actually removing it (all the highlight colors are 0), allowing the background shining effect to be seen. The best way to check out the subpicture is by extract them using subrip.

You're right, there are 4 black boxes with white numbers, so the animation is running behind.

Yes you can,as long as the buttons don't move position, but remember that supictures can have only 4 colours(with 1 being the background). You can import using a script(like you'd would with ordinary subtitles). Also new buttons will have to be created each time a new subpicture starts, so with a lot of subpictures this will be tedious.
