View Full Version : What filter do you suggest for this kind of "regular" noise?

I need to remove the noise in this sample. I am referring to the almost regular noise pattern which is especially visible on the azure jersey. Since it is quite regular, is there a filter suitable for this kind of noise?
The sample is a field resized to the size of the whole frame.
I think that this is some kind of interference, but regretfully the interference is recorded on the tape and it is not caused by the videorecorder.

Well, I tried several filters (Defreq, SpatialSoften, fft3dfilter, peachsmoother, VaguedeDoiser, Unfilter) and I get the best results using Unfilter, using high values for horizontal smoothing: for example Unfilter(-70,0). It's quite interesting that the smoothing doesn't reduce the details in an appreciable way, but affect only the noise. What about the other filters?
Defreq simply doesn't work, I think because it needs a really regular noise, while the noise in my tape was not so regular.
SpatialSoften works but also reduces to much the details.
fft3dfilter is better than SpatialSoften but the detail is still reduced to much.
Peachsmoother was chosen at random, but reading the man page it can be seen that it is not suitable for this kind of problem.
Vaguedenoiser was quite good, but in the regions where the noise was more visible.
