Hi,

the last time I read a lot about demuxing new HD Media, decoding and so on. I have to admit I lost the overview and unfortunately I don't find a way to play my HD-DVD in a proper way. Perhaps someone here can help me or give me a link where to find the information. Here my experience.

Every time I use a new Decoder I first try it in Graphedit as I can see what filters are used. Unfortunately Graphedit cannot connect to the Direct Show Filters from PowerDVD so I can't see which filters are used there.

1) PowerDVD 7.3 works OK. It's not the best quality but all audio, subtitles and so on are available and it is reliable.

2) I installed the Sonic HD Decoder Pack 4.2 and have to say the quality is much better furthermore I can use it in my media Player classic or Zoomplayer but...
a) Graphedit connect the evo source with the HD Muxer and the Video and Audio Decoder from Sonic. I can change the Audio layer and it works. Unfortunately the Sonic Decoder don't use the SPDIF but decodes it to stereo. So there's no possibility to hear 5.1 digital sound. So I wanted to change the Audio Decoder to AC3 Filter. It connects but don't play the movie. Also ffdshow no possibility.
b) The next Problem is that the Sonic HD Video Decoder needs lots of resources. I just want to check if the Cyberlink Decoder would be better but the same Problem like the Audio I have no chance to connect the filters.

3) Next I tried Intervideo. I don't like that app very much because it is so huge but for a test ok.
I tried the Intervideo Demuxer but it did'n work. Then tried the Sonic HD Demuxer with Intervideo HD Video Decoder and the same just a black picture.

So what are your experiences. What filters do you use for a smooth high quality HD DVD playback? Is there any free Demuxxer or Decoder? What about the AVC or FFdshow Video Decoder. I thought it would be possible to use these ones?

Thanks a lot for help and sorry for the long thread but a complex topic. And before I forget sorry for my bad English hopefully everyone who's interested can read this :-)

Regards,

Alex

PowerDVD was a no-go for me because of subtitles (never got them to work, or they were misaligned, etc), not to mention its price.
Intervideo WinDVD, doesn't work if the hardware acceleration is on.
(at least on my system - 3 Ghz Pentium 4, 7600GS)

Then, I heard about the Nero's HD DVD / Blu-Ray Plugin (http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/Blu_Ray_Plugin.html). I have no use for Nero since the ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/) was invented but Nero Vision works OK, decent CPU usage, so far I'm pleased...

Thanks very much for your answer. Haven't tried the plugin yet but sound interesting. The only Problem I see is that you have to use the nero player and cannot use another direct show player. Or is it possible to use the decoders, Demuxer from Nero.

Bye
