View Full Version : Choosing right resolution for XviD presets
Hi, everybody
I am going to make a copy of one of my DVD's (The Godfather) using Teegedeck's Xvid Presets.
When I made the compressibility check at 640x352, I got 37.7 % result.
When I did it at 576x320, I got 48.3 %.
So, I can either go for 640x352 and '>30% comp. check' preset OR 576x320 and '>45% comp. check' preset.
Which would you recommend me to choose?
Thanks in advance for any help

I don't have the answer you are looking for, - sorry.
But, - why don't you try both. And see which one looks better?
It will take a bit of time of cause, - but then you know which one is better for you, instead of some general idea of what might be better

Can you make it for an additional CD, or for a larger part of a DVD5? The first percentage is pretty low, and the second isn't much better, although you may find it watchable.
:thanks:

The file size is already 1800 MB. I will try to fill the whole DVD 5 though.
By the way, I use GK to make compressibility check. Will the results be different (e.g. more accurate) in the case if I will use Enc (as it is recommended in Teegedeck's preset threat) with the same settings (i.e. SixOfNine, quantizer 3, etc.)?
OK, I found answer for the last question.
From one of the Teegedeck's posts:
Nothing wrong with using GKnot for creating the avs; but the comp-check that GKnot performs is totally different in nature from what Enc does; just use Enc for that.

Aha! The truth comes out. Then you should be OK with 640x352. A high bitrate matrix like the 6-of-9 can use much lower percentages than can the usual matrices. It will still look very good with much higher average quants. You might take Neuman's suggestion and try it out and see how it looks. You can encode a small portion by using AviSynth's Trim command.

Thanks a lot for very useful information
