I am wondering if it is at all possible to take a complete dvd, extras and subtitles and languages along with track/scene selections and all and transfer to a HDD. Then to be able to take the file, create like a cover art and use a PC as a Home media center to play movies. I have seen screen shots of such a device somewhere....But dont know how to transfer the movie.

I know how to make an exact duplicate using dvd fab decrypter, but these files are unable to be just a one click open.

I understand that a standard movie can take the full 8 gb of space - since that is a common DL dvd. What I am trying to acomplish is to make a MEDIA PC to house all my movies (currently own 178 dvd movies) and avoid hassles of the dvd itself.

Now if this can be done, Is it worth it? Would wuality be as good as a dvd player?

Also - i havnt looked yet - and will now - but do any video cards offer HD outputs via HDMI?? and a Digitial tos-link for audio?

And lastly if this all could be done by a super computer, could blu-ray and hd-dvd be transfered the same way. Thank you!!

Welcome to the forum.
Firstly it would be helpful if you edit your title as per rule 9 of the forum rules. This being the Newbies forum, most posts are from new members with a question, so this title is not really much use! A title that succintly describes the topic gets the attention of the members most likely to be able to help you.

With regards your question, if I understand it correctly, you want to rip DVD's to single files that you can just double-click to play. The way I do this is to rip them to an ISO image file. If you install VLC player, it will play these directly, so I just right clicked on my first ripped ISO and selected Open With. I chose VLC player as the application and checked the box to always open this file type with this app. and clicked OK.

Now every time I click on an ISO file, it plays the content from the menu as if it were a DVD disc. I now keep 30 or so movies on a USB hard disk to watch on my laptop when on business trips.

I'm happy with the quality - try it for yourself. As for your hardware questions, not my arena but maybe someone else can help you there.

EDIT- to change a title, click the Edit button on your post and hit Go Advanced to be able to change the title :)
